Why graduates are going crazy for Sarape Sashes

Sarape Sashes is a California-based, family-owned company offering beautiful and colorful graduation sashes for college and university graduates.

All original sarape sashes are handwoven in Mexico by native workers. These workers use the same techniques that have been passed down through their families for generations, producing a quality sash with an intricacy that simply can’t be made by machines.

The graduation sashes come in a variety of predesigned patterns. They all feature a beautiful and delicate fringe at each end. They come in fifteen main colors, with complementary swatches of vibrant color.  Custom designs and embroidery are available.

Just recently, Sarape Sashes started offering a Pride Rainbow sash. This type of sash features the beautiful pride rainbow colors, allowing graduates to show their LGBTQ pride. Also, recently added to the line-up are their five, brand new designs that feature country colors such as red, green, blue, yellow and white combinations allowing a fantastic field for embroidery for Mexico, USA, South American countries as well as Cuba and, so many more.

One of the key pillars of the business is the owner and founder, Patricia Rodriguez. Patricia has always placed a high value on family. Her parents were always there for her, and when they started entering their senior years she knew she needed to take care of them. She had to put her teaching career on hold to be around to help them. This had the unintended consequence of giving her time to think about what she could do for a business. She thought back to her memory of the pride on her parents faces as she walked across the stage to receive her diploma from Harvard University. She also thought back to her own experiences teaching, and the pride of watching her students succeed.

She thought back to the artisan weavers of her native Mexico, and realized there was a need for their services. She knew people would love the sarape sashes they produced using the weaving techniques that had been passed down through their families for generations. She knew there was a certain aspect to handmade graduation stoles that would easily stand out for their quality and characteristics. It was also important to her to give back to Mexico, and provide jobs to those who needed them.

So, she began building her business. Things were of course slow at first, but as she continued to work relentlessly, more and more orders began coming in. The colorful sarape sashes that Patricia was selling became more and more popular. Her parents’ health improved, and they became an integral part of the business. As the business grew, more family members needed to be brought in to help. Patricia was incredibly proud of what she had built, and continues to be to this day.

The business has grown well beyond anything Patricia had ever hoped it could be, providing its beautiful graduation sashes to high schools, universities, colleges and Latino organizations across the United States. Patricia continues to work tirelessly to expand the business, and provide her quality handmade sashes to those who need them.
